Who are we?
The Purple Hills Arts and Heritage Society is a group of volunteers committed to supporting the arts and conserving the heritage of Creemore and the surrounding area.
What do we do?
Arts
- Studio Tour Weekend, which is held each fall in conjunction with local artists.
- Musical events, dances and concerts.
- Children's Art Show and theatrical performances.
- Lectures and seminars.
School Awards
- Support Arts and Heritage programs in local elementary and secondary schools.
- Educational assistance is available for promising young artists and performers.
Social Events
- Our social events each year include Spring and Fall Suppers, and the Annual General Meeting.
Heritage
- A Green and Pleasant Place, a book published by the Society, sketches the history of our area.
- Microfilms of the Creemore Star (1885-1997) and the Creemore Echo (1997-1999; later years are planned) preserve village newspaper history.
- The Creemore Walking Tour brochure highlights Creemore's architectural heritage.
- The Station on the Green, Creemore's community centre, receives ongoing support from the Society.
- The Oral History Project preserves the personal memories of long-time residents.
- Tea and History presentations and other public programs feature aspects of local history.
