I started with hand embroidery at age 10 and I have been machine quilting and creating textile art for over 12 years.
I am inspired by the opportunities that fabric provides to play with pattern and colour. My custom quilts use simple lines for graphic impact and rich colour combinations to create theme and mood. Bed quilts and wall-hangings are finished with unique custom long-arm quilting.
I draw from many techniques – traditional and modern, hand and machine – mixing them unexpectedly to create unique textural effects in my pictorial works of plants and trees. Fabric is a soft medium that allows me to play with shape and form, and thus create three-dimensional, sculptural representations of my subjects on a two-dimensional base. I use a long-arm quilting machine to paint with thread and then hand embroider the final finishing details on my plant portraits and still life scenes.
